The Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) is a standardized test used as a part of the admissions process by Business schools to assess the skills of the student. The test is administered by Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC).

GMAT is a Computer Adaptive Test (CAT). It consists of three parts:

  • Analytical Writing Assessment - Two essays (30-minutes each).
  • Quantitative section - 37 questions (75-min)
  • Verbal section - 41 questions (75-minutes).

  • Analytical Writing Assessment (AWA): AWA is designed as a direct measure of your ability to think critically and to communicate your ideas. The Analysis of an Issue tests your ability to explore the complexities of an issue or opinion and, if appropriate, to take a position that is informed by your understanding. The Analysis of an Argument tests your ability to formulate an appropriate and constructive critique of a specific conclusion based on a specific line of thinking.
    Quantitative Section measures your ability to:
  • Reason Quantitatively
  • Recognize which information is relevant
  • Determine at what point there is sufficient information to solve a problem.
  • Two types of multiple choice questions are tested in the Quant section: Problem solving and Data sufficiency.
    Verbal Section measures your ability to:
  • Read and comprehend written material
  • Reason and evaluate arguments
  • Correct written material to conform to standard written English
  • Three types of multiple choice questions are tested in the Verbal section - Sentence Correction, Critical Reasoning and Reading Comprehension.
